“Explore the profound impact of Digital Empowerment Foundation’s nationwide mental health workshops, as they empower communities to transform their lives by shedding light on the often-overlooked topic of mental health and well-being.”
To raise awareness about mental health among the youth and community members nationwide, Digital Empowerment Foundation has been organising Mental Health Workshops across DEF’s centers under the Kisan Trust program, with the aim of shedding light on the often-overlooked topic of mental health and well-being.
One of the major workshops was held on August 10th, 2023, at the Chaudhary Charan Singh Public Library and CIRC, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of its participants.
The day commenced with eager participants, a diverse group of individuals gathered to explore the depths of their own mental well-being. The workshop’s objectives were clear: to dispel misconceptions surrounding mental health and empower participants with practical knowledge for personal growth in their daily lives.
The workshop unfolded with a series of activities and discussions. The first step involved engaging participants in discussions, inviting them to explore their existing perceptions and beliefs about mental health. This initial dialogue set the stage for a journey of discovery.
Next, an engaging mental health bingo game was introduced, transforming learning into a fun and interactive experience. Laughter and learning intertwined as participants delved deeper into the world of mental health.
Understanding the importance of mental health became a crucial element of the workshop. Signs, risk factors, and protective factors were discussed in-depth, providing participants with a holistic view of this vital topic.
Emotions, often a neglected aspect of mental health, took center stage. The RAIN worksheet guided attendees through the complex landscape of their own emotions, assisting them in regulating their behavior and coping effectively with life’s challenges.
One of the most empowering moments occurred during the “What I Can Control” activity, wherein participants identified areas of agency in their lives. This newfound sense of control encouraged them to make informed decisions when faced with stressors.
The workshop was not merely about acquiring knowledge; it aimed to foster a sense of community and support. An open Q&A segment allowed participants to seek clarification and share their thoughts, ensuring that everyone departed with a comprehensive understanding.
As the day concluded, a sense of gratitude and positivity permeated the room. A gratitude tree activity allowed attendees to reflect on their newfound awareness and appreciation for mental health.
The impact of this Mental Health Workshop was profound. Participants, especially young girls, realised the extent of misinformation surrounding mental health and underwent a significant shift in their attitudes and perceptions. They left the workshop empowered, armed with practical applications for enhancing their mental well-being, and a newfound appreciation for the role of mental health in their lives.
