DEF marks 20 years of successful journey in the strive to realise digital inclusion. The central aspect in this journey has been the well designed hubs located in the villages across India which have served more purposes than the ones intended. Each hub continues to be a thriving space even today with a constant flow of visitors of all age groups seeking help, guidance, access and empowerment.

The foundation of DEF was laid on the primary objective to provide ‘access’ through digital means. Starting from the Community Information Resource Centre (CIRC) model, which has evolved over the years, DEF has successfully set up centres in rural communities for sustainable growth. The locally managed centres have bridged the perspectives from a beneficiary point of view as well as the management’s view.
Smartpur centres have witnessed many success stories of women entrepreneurs who have found a new purpose in their lives to serve their communities along with earning a decent income. CIRCs have successfully launched, hosted and collaborated with various new initiatives as it has managed to earn trust and attention of the locals. Digital Excellence Centres have morphed into alternative schooling systems where students and elders eagerly visit to learn and experiment digital and soft skills, integrating them with their life skills. This edition of the newsletter brings stories from these centres and gives a glimpse of the personal and professional dynamics.
