For children, the Internet is a magical entity to quench the thirst of knowledge and curiosity. However, networking etiquettes, Internet safety and online privacy needs to be discussed. According to a UNICEF poll, over 40 per cent of the 10,000 young people across 25 countries began using the Internet before they were 13-years-old. UNICEF, through its #EndViolenceOnline campaign, aims to amplify these young people’s voices and help us all better understand a generation growing up online. “Protecting children from abuse and exploitation is everybody’s business,” says Cornelius Williams, Associate Director & Global Chief of Child Protection, UNICEF.
UNICEF’s report ‘Perils and Possibilities: Growing up Online’ gives a detailed overview of the concerns surrounding children’s protection online.
In support of this cause, DEF organised a day-long online campaign on Facebook and Twitter on July 19, 2016. Using #ChildSafetyOnline, the campaign generated considerable interest and enabled a two-way sharing of ideas and information through Facebook posts, tweets and polls. While Facebook posts shared statistics.
