With rural entrepreneurs stepping forward to ensure digital services reach every household, India’s digital transformation is gaining significant momentum. Some key initiatives have received strong support and reinforcement from the Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF), helping individuals turn their aspirations into impactful realities. Among them, Pooja, an inspiring entrepreneur from Sisona village in Uttarakhand, stands out. Coming from a modest background, her life centred around her household and her child, while her husband, earning ₹12,000 a month, provided for the family. Despite financial constraints, Pooja always dreamed of starting her own digital services centre to serve her village and support her family’s growth.
Her husband introduced her to the SoochnaPreneur model through Mr. Fardeen Shah, the District Coordinator of Roorkee. After learning about the programme and receiving guidance, Pooja became more determined to pursue her dream. With DEF’s support, she turned her vision into reality by establishing a Community Information Resource Centre (CIRC). On the inauguration day, Pooja felt immense pride as her long-awaited dream came true. The village Pradhan commended her efforts, and the community celebrated her initiative to bring affordable digital services to their doorstep.
With DEF’s assistance, Pooja now supports her family financially and feels empowered. She plans to expand the centre into a Common Services Centre, further benefiting her community. Her journey exemplifies how digital inclusion, community support, and determination can empower individuals and transform lives.
